Canadian immigration authorities have continued to prefer French proficiency candidates this year by issuing invitations to apply (ITAs) to 1,400 Express Entry candidates in the second draw this week. Candidates in the francophone category required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 410 to be considered.
This category-based draw on April 24 follows a general draw on April 23, in which Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 2,095 applicants with a threshold of 529 (CRS score). It was a 20-point lesser over the last general draw on April 10, when the cut-off score was 549, the highest minimum score of the year.
The department issued 1,500 invitations to apply (ITAs) for Canada Permanent Residence in a category-based selection draw for French language proficiency on March 26, 2024. It followed 2,500 ITAs on February 29 after starting the category-based with a mammoth 7000 ITAs to French Proficiency candidates on February 1, 2024.
IRCC has invited 12,400 French language proficiency candidates and 3,500 in healthcare occupations among the 21,525 candidates invited through category draws.
Thus far, IRCC has invited 35,960 candidates to apply for permanent residence in Canada and issued 14,435 ITAs through general draws.
One other draw this month occurred on April 11. It was the first draw of the year for Express Entry candidates eligible for category-based selection for STEM occupations. The department invited 4,500 candidates with a minimum CRS of 491.
IRCC conducts Express Entry general draws at regular intervals. Canada Express Entry manages applications for economic immigrants through the following programs:
Category-based draws were introduced category based draws in May 2023 to prioritise qualified immigration candidates with either:
The Francophone category is based on the federal government’s mandate to strengthen French communities across Canada which are in the minority. To be eligible for the French category, candidates must have French language test results that require a minimum score of seven in all four language abilities (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) on the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadien (NCLC).
The Canadian government reforms immigration laws every year to attract more immigrants and help Canadian newcomers get the best facilities and treatment. IRCC has increased the intensity of Express Entry draws, and if you have credentials, especially in the STEM and French language categories, then you can be prioritised to get ITAs.
